The Hurwood family probably originated in the southern part of the North Riding of Yorkshire in England and its members have now spread to many other parts of the world. The origin of the Hurwood name is uncertain. This website is intended to be a complete and current picture of the state of Hurwood genealogy research which is captured in the searchable family tree database. It covers both the Hurwood and other related families: my particluar research interests revolve around the Avis, Clothier, Cowan, Leather, Ridgway, Samuels, Smith and Varden families.

Hurwood Database News
The Hurwood family history research database has had another update and the individuals pages now display ancestors to four generations. I have received a number of emails from various Hurwood researchers with new information and possibly some fixes to incorrect data. I am working through these at the moment and hope to publish a collection of updates them shortly.
If you are interested in our family history, I would encourage you to start looking at your own piece of the tree and fill in any of the details which are missing. I am always interested in receiving any new Hurwood information or updates that you may have. Information, old photos, stories, anything.
